Cannabis Flower

Cannabis flower is the smokable, trichome-covered part of the female cannabis plant. Cannabis flower is also known as the bud or the nugs. Cannabis flower is the most popular form of consuming cannabis due to its versatility. Cannabis flower can be consumed in many different ways, including being smoked in a pipe, joint or blunt, vaporized in a vaporizer, or turned into edibles. When it comes to cannabis flower, there are three main categories that cannabis falls into. These include Indica, Sativa, and hybrids. Continue reading to find out more about each variety of cannabis.

Indica

Indica strains originate from Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, and Turkey. These plants have adapted to the Hindu Kush mountains’ harsh, dry, and turbulent climate.

Indica plants are typically short and stocky and bushy, with chunky leaves. Indica plants typically grow wide and broad. These plants grow faster than Sativa, and each plant usually produces more buds.

Indica strains usually have more CBD than sativas, but this doesn’t necessarily mean less THC content.

Indicas are used for their sedative effects. People often use indicas for the relaxing effects they produce on the body, otherwise known as a “body high.” Indicas can also help reduce nausea and pain while increasing appetite. For these reasons, they are typically used at night.

Some popular Indica strains include Girl Scout Cookies, Hindu Kush, and Granddaddy Purple.

Sativa

Sativas are usually found in hot, dry climates with long, sunny days. These climates include Central America, Southeast Asia, Africa, and Western Asia.

Sativa plants are typically tall and thin while sporting finger-like leaves. They can grow taller than 12 feet, although they take longer to grow than other types of cannabis.

Sativas typically have lower levels of CBD and higher levels of THC.

Sativas produce “head highs.” They are sought after for their energizing and anxiety-reducing effects. Sativas make people feel more creative and productive, as opposed to relaxed and lethargic. This is why sativas are considered daytime strains.

Some popular Sativa strains include Durban Poison, Sour Diesel, and Jack Herer.

Hybrid

Hybrid strains are usually grown on farms or in greenhouses from a combination of Indica and Sativa strains.

The appearance of hybrid strains depends on their parent strains, so they can range from being short and stocky to tall plants reaching over 12 feet in height.

While hybrid cannabis plants are grown to increase the THC percentage, each plant has a unique ratio of the two cannabinoids.

Hybrid plants are selected for their unique effects. The effects can range from reducing anxiety and stress to increasing creativity and productivity to easing symptoms of chemotherapy and radiation.

Depending on the predominant effects of the hybrid strain, whether it’s best for daytime or nighttime can vary.

Some popular hybrid strains include Ice Cream Cake, Wedding Cake, and Gelato.
